Story Coaching Onboarding

Finding the right fit in a fiction story coach can be hard. This is why I’ve created a detailed yet understandable overlook of what it’s like to come onboard as one of my story coaching clients.

My Responsibilities

Story Coaching Syllabus

After your initial planning session, you’ll receive your Story Coaching Syllabus. This syllabus comes from the strategy we discussed during your both your consultation onboarding and the specifics of your planning sessions.

Writing Analysis

Weekly writing assignments, especially using prompts, help reinforce story principles as well as allow you to explore different aspects of those same principles. I’ll bring questions and thoughts on what you’ve submitted, so we can adjust your coaching as needed and address potential adjustments to your story itself.

Craft Skills Planning

Efficiency and Prioritization

Together, we figure out what you most want to achieve from working together. We’ll decide how to balance your particular story approaches while improving your general craft skills. The syllabus will be updated with tangible objectives that challenge you without overwhelming you. This is a collaborative conversation, not a one-way road.

Together, through planning and strategizing, we’ll agree on the best methods to address your writing and storytelling concerns while also experimenting with formats and techniques you may not have previously considered. Half of each session will be covering the craft principle of the week. The other half will be for discussing your submitted assignment. This is your chance to ask questions or raise concerns you might have about the assignment.

Your Responsibilities

Time Management

Because I run a full-time business, and because you possibly have a full-time job, time management is going to be key to your success. Not only will we have regularly scheduled sessions, but we’ll be in asynchronous communication via email. Prompt responses on both our parts are required to make our partnership work.

Collaboration and Communication

I cannot stress the collaborative nature of writing and coaching enough. Sometimes we’ll disagree on tactics, or even story premises or plot ideas. At the end of the day, I’m your coach and here to serve you and your needs. I’ll do my best to keep you on the path we’ve set while giving you time and space to veer off-road.
