Story Coaching
Are you looking to level up your writing craft skills?
Have an idea for a queer romance or detective thriller scratching at your brain stem that you can’t quite flesh out on your own?
Maybe your main character is doing things that don’t fit what you’re trying to get them to do?
Well, then, let’s talk about how my fiction story coaching can help you “one word at a time!”

What is story coaching?
Story coaching involves providing constructive, objective input on an array of areas you may want to consider as you flesh out your story for further development. It includes things like:
- coming up with a solid-enough plot premise that will carry your readers through a full-length novel
- creating believable, well-rounded characters who act in both predictable and especially shocking ways to compel your readers to follow them for 250 or more pages
- building realistic story worlds that readers can immerse themselves in starting on Page One
This input is designed to help you evolve your storytelling abilities—not just for the story you’re currently working on, but also for any future writing projects you undertake.
Additionally, I serve as your accountability partner, holding your feet to the fire when an agreed-upon deadline is coming up. I work hand-in-hand to keep you on track to hit important publishing milestone goals.
What’s my story coaching process?
Our story coaching relationship begins with a conversation about several topics:
- Why do you want to write a queer romance or detective thriller story? Now why do you want to write this story?
- Who are your target readers and what about your story idea compels them to pick up your book?
- What personal fears about your writing skills are getting in the way of you actually writing?
- What can we do to help shift your author mindset to better accomplish your storytelling and writing craft goals?
Through establishing this foundation, we can ensure each coaching session will provide exactly what you need when you need it.
So, what’s in it for you?
Here’s a glimpse into what you can expect as my writing and story coaching client:
- We’ll identify what you believe are your writing strengths and weaknesses. (Dialogue your jam? Or do your characters struggle with the “making words come out of the mouth” thing like I sometimes do? Ace at POV? Or can you head-hop like a pro?)
- I’ll act as a sounding board and strategist for those plot or character or setting bunnies that show up at 3 a.m., not letting you sleep until you Write This Down.
- You’ll come to live by constantly questioning your characters as a way to delve into their motivations and decisions: “Why? And then what? What if they did this instead?”
- Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines! I’m all about accountability!
